All I know is it is different it might of not been as different. I might be imagining things. Lol but it is different. Maybe the new piston rings are the cause. It just all the sudden felt like a more smoother ride.
If it randomly goes back up I will be sure to take a picture so we can see the actual difference.

So did you or didn't you change tire sizes? That is the only thing on these cars that should affect cruising RPM at a given speed, aside from a badly slipping clutch or different gears in the trans. One post sounded like you swapped tires, another post sounded like you didn't. What size are you currently running? And if there was a change of tires since the start of this thread, what size were you running before? Tire size can have a HUGE impact on your MPG (ask Paul, he knows firsthand). I'm still in love with my 155/80R13s for mileage, and it doesn't hurt that they are still dirt cheap (compared to other sizes).

Never mind. 100 miles at half a tank. So still at 20 mpg. Gotta be the tire size then.

That isn't an accurate way to measure MPG.

Well. You see. Your miles aren't correct because your car thinks it is going farther than you really are in theory. So if you went 1 mile it would be more than a mile cause your tires are the incorrect size. What you should do to tell the mileage is look on your gps fill the car drive to another gas station and fill it up again. Use the gps traveled distance and divide how much more gas it took to fill back up. Simple.

It isn't that hard to figure out the difference. Turn on your GPS, drive EXACTLY ten miles, figure out the difference in reference to your odometer. If your odometer says you went 9.7 miles, you are 3 percent off, right?

Next, fill up your gas tank, completely top it off. Record your odometer reading. Drive normally. When you get below half a tank, completely top up again, record the odometer reading. Figure out how many gallons of gas you used, divided by the miles your odometer says you drove. Add in the percent difference.

Yea check the VAF, I think I might have to clean mine, it got left outside this winter and there's some mildewy stuff growing on the inside and the door doesn't move as crisply as the clean one does.

So you've been tracking my MPG by the fuel gage!

For the love of John man, get a 3"x5" spiral bound note pad and record fill up data.
Seriously, that and the previous mention GPS parallel run.
Better to go 100 to 200 miles, or more, to generate the GPS to ODO ratio for more accurate results.
With this baseline, you can now start to get to the heart of your problem.
