  • Southeast Michigan Festiva owners - I need wheel bearing assistance! help!

    Hello Everyone,

After multiple comments to a previous post I had, I have opted to keep my Festiva and not replace it with an Aspire. In order for me to do that, I have to figure out my wheel bearings issue. Over the past couple of years, I have run through multiple sets of wheel bearings. Each time, I have taken my car to a mechanic and had them replaced, only to find the bearings are bad again within 10-20k. I have attempted a few different mechanics with no good luck . I'm slightly mechanically inclined, but I don't have to tools or experience necessary to tackle the wheel bearings alone. Currently, I have a loud humming noise coming from the passenger side rear of my car, and I'm sure its the bearings again. These bearings were installed in Dec of 2012 and have roughly 20,000 miles on them. I'm convinced that either the shop isn't installing them correctly, or there is something else wrong with my car that is causing this issue. hmmmmmm

What I'm asking is this: Is there anyone located within the Southeast Michigan/Metro Detroit area who has some experience with Festivas who might be willing to help me out? I am more than willing to pay for your time - I just want to get my Festiva running right! I drive 100 miles a day for work and would hate to loose my gas-saver. If so, please PM me and I'll provide you with my cell num. Any help is greatly appreciated! Currently, I think its just the rear passenger bearing that is at fault, but I also have some warped routers that need some attention if at all possible.

Please help! I am located bout 45 miles northeast of Detroit. If you can help me out, I would be forever greatful!!!!

Thanks everyone - I'm glad to be part of this group as it seems everyone is willing to help everyone! :highly_amused: If there's anything I can do to help someone, please let me know!!!

You, my friend are the perfect candidate for an Aspire suspension conversion.
Your mechanics should be able to service it properly them.

What are the differences between the two?

Bigger brakes. Bigger wheels and tires. Better stopping. Vented rotor.

the bearings are the same.... so switching to aspire products wont' help there. BR4 and BR1 for the rear (inner/outer) and BR11 for the fronts (those are SKF/BWD part numbers)
            Trees aren't kind to me...

            currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

The bearings are the same, but his rear spindle might be messed up. The swap would take care of your warped rotors too but you need to have the denero not only for the parts, but for new wheels and tires too.

I'm a half hour west of Detroit in Westland/Canton area. Let me know if you're headed to Ikea anytime, you can stop in and chat. I'm really busy with classes and work, but weekends are open if you can't find someone else to help. Try to get this done before its too cold to hold the tools outside!

Pop cap off and see if it's gooey and boogery. Ie, dry/thick/caked.

Thats the weak point of grease spindles.... Flings outward, gets dry, then hot, bearing starts to destroy itself, grease thins, falls into rollers too late, damage done, rise and repeat.

Reason new stuff is sealed oil bath, and new trailer and other FF axles are oil bath.

I've gone with thinner grease, or a few table spoons of STP after a repack.
