Hi Guys, Now that I have my fast idle fixed, I am going to try and get me temperature gauge working. Does not work at all, I am guessing a sending unit, does that sound like a good guess? Are the sending units pretty easy to change? Where is the sending unit located, when I had the air cleaner off messing around with the carb, I kind of looked around but did not see it. Thanks for any help! Bill

Strongly recommend you get a Haynes manual, it'll save you asking lots of questions. And it has pictures of where stuff is.

I'm not sure if the carby and FI are the same but on the FI the sending unit is on the front of the head just to the right of the exhaust manifold. ( if you are standing in front of the car looking at the engine.) It is a single wire sensor. I dont know why the pic turned out so small. My work computer wont let me upload it to imgur so I can link a bigger pic.

In the area you are talking about there is a single wire sensor that I thought had something to do with the fan turning on and off, is that the same sensor, or is it near that one? Thanks, Bill

They are close together. The one you want is more or less under the #4 spark plug (the one nearest the disty).

^This. There is a large single wire one that controls the fan. There is a smaller one between the #4 plug and the thermostat.

Get a Haynes Manual? And take all of the fun out of chatting on the internet about Festivas? I don't think so, well maybe some day when the guys on here can't help me out! Thanks for the idea though! Bill

You can still chat with us about stuff not well explained in the manual. But having it around is really handy at times, when you need a quick answer; and a pic is often better than an on-line explanation. Plus you have it right there to refer to when you're out there working on the car.

it is quite small, I am a little concerned about it breaking off when I turn it?

Test it before you try removing it. It has a varaible resistance depending on temperature. Measure the resustance cold and hot. It grounds to the block.

I can't test it, I managed to break it already, I tried to remove the wire and managed to pull the end right off of it and it pulled the wire right out of the middle.

Its just a little push on connector....how did you manage to break it? Put it back together, you didn't hurt anything unless you tried removing it from the block and snapped it in half....in which case. Maybe you shouldn't be working on your car. LOL
Seriously tho, all joking aside, just put the wire back in the connector and test it.

You may have missed me talking about not being a mechanic two weeks ago when I was getting help fixing a fast idle that wouldn't slow down. I am just a fifty four year old truck driver trying to keep six cars running because I have three kids in three different colleges. It can be challenging!
Do you think this is the correct part for this project? http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-ENG...649bd5&vxp=mtr
                              Thanks, Bill
