Truth be told it needs adjusting more than fluid though

Well this is just my experience, plus I just drove in maybe a 5 mile circle, hardly enough to really tell, plus it is hard to tell a difference between a placebo improvement, and an actual improvement.
Also I actually didn't expect any improvement because it already shifted beautifully before.
But after googling Pennzoil Syncromesh, I find forum after forum with lots of people praising it and comparing it to Amsoil Syncromesh, and people putting it above Royal Purple, Royal Purple being nothing but expensive crap in terms of Transmission oil.

And that's the key. If it already shifted well then you shouldn't really notice a huge difference. Mine shifted like total poo, but after the swap I think I've only bounced it off of 4th one time so far. Before it was an everyday occurrence for gears 2,3,4, and 5 (5 was especially hard to get a clean gate). Not consecutively, but at different intervals while driving around.

Actually I did use to have an occasional problem with getting it to slide into second, like you said you would bounce off it because of the gate, but I thought that was just down to the civic short shifter I was using, not the fluid. Though I have yet to do it with the new fluid, but even so it was rare that I did it before.

Did you know, Shell oil Co bought Pennzoil and Quaker State back in the mid 90's Both brands have been re formulated, we use Q State in all our cars and have had no problems, I still would not give you two plug nickels for Pennzoil but i'm sure it's better than the bunker oil they used to sell. So thanks Zanzer for the tip, i'll give the Pennzoil Syncromesh trans oil a try. Old parts need a good lubing now and then.

I used to be the same way towards Pennzoil until I saw some of the Blackstone reports from the Mazdaspeed guys and started using Platinum in my Speed. I figure since it's synthetic it wouldn't have the same issues as their oil dyno base stocks. The Platinum performed as reported, cleaner engine and no more smoking turbo (which is way better than I can report for the Mobil 1 I ran in it for a while). I still wouldn't use either unless it was the synthetic variety.

So far the Civic shifter and syncromesh has been the 2 biggest improvements in shift quality for my E series. I was actually going to take it out and toss it before I tried those 2 mods. Now it feels like it has at least another 50-75k left in it

If this is indeed still the original transmission, which I believe it is. (The PO only mentioned the engine being replaced, nothing about the transmission.)

So if it is, my transmission has 312k miles, and still smooth as butter.

This is why I love Mazda, they build stuff that lasts! Even when it is a transmission for a small ecobox that is being sold under a different badge.

Also props to the Koreans that knew how to bolt the car together properly. lol
