  • Automatic Seatbelts

Hi I'm new here and I have this very frustrating problem.
My 1991 festiva's automatic belts seem to have been disabled by the previous owner. I was wondering how there suposta operate? I replaced the fuse and hooked everything I could find back up. And still nothing no motor noise no movement. any ideas? on how to restore operation?

    Any help is much appreciated.

      Hi!
When I bought the car, it also have been deactivated.
The reason was disconnected plug in the door, near the door lock inside.

(When you open the door, belts go ahead)

If it turns out you have bad motors I have both driver and passenger auto belt motors in working condition.

Also check the box under the drivers seat. That is what was bad on mine.

Usually Americans are much more sensible than Colonials but somehow Canada allowed manual seatbelt versions for all of the Festys delivered north of the 49th parallel. Could well be the Prime Minister or maybe President of the Can. Safety Council nearly got strangled by a Festy, or a Saturn, self-actuating belt system before that decision was made. If you can find a derelict Canuck Festy and grab the belts you can then dispense with all the electric plugs, motors, tracks and additional junk and enjoy/use seat belts just like any other normal human being.

Stop it! That does not help me get rid of my electric belts!! (I need them gone cause I switched to manual belts from a pre-90! )

I pulled on mine and it fell apart (the stiching came loose)

Mine went back and forth at random intervals while driving down the road. I just pulled the fuse while they were in the back position.

If I get another Festy with those auto seat belts, I'm going to rip them out and put manuals in. In saying that, anyone can have the ones I rip out at shipping cost. Just sayin.

I presume you read that I scavenged a set of manual retractors from an 89 in Capac? I don't know how you guys put up with auto belts. They would be the very first thing I replace.
