  • 2" Exhaust on stock 1.3lL cause power and fuel problems?

Someone at some point put a 2" exhaust on the car, and the exhaust behind the cat is past its prime to keep the story short, has a leak where it was rewelded back on, and could never fit a muffler properly because of the mangled pipe (flexpipe and a tin can with some clamps, but still leaked.)

But at any rate, being 2" AND having leaks, would the lack of backpressure effect power and fuel mileage?

I can never manage 40+ MPG unless on the highway.

Also is $90 shipped for an intermediate pipe from ebay really worth it? Or would an exhaust shop charge less to make one?

Exhaust shop is best bet. most of their prices are for installed repairs and they can check your system for any other problems while its there.

Rock Auto has intermediate pipes for 65 and 76 bux. If you can do exhaust work yourself, I'd go for it. I think any muffler shop will be more expensive. The money you save can go partially into a can of high-temp exhaust paint, stainless fasteners, etc., and you'll still have money left over.

Thing about rockauto is they NEVER count shipping, and for an exhaust pipe I am sure it would be ridiculous from rockauto.

$90 shipped from ebay for a Walker unit.

EDIT: Yeah a couple bucks cheaper all together on Rockauto about $87 shipped for the walker unit $90 for the Bosal, any opinion on which to go for?

Also, Walker SoundFX muffler, or Bosel?

What I am planning to do is leave the cat on for now, but use a dremel with a cutting disc (only tool I have to cut metal underneath the car) and cut the back end of the cat pipe off, and just use an adapter pipe, some clamps, and maybe some exhaust sealant to seal it up.

i have the same issue but instead of welding it they put two extenders and now it rattles like no other, and my gas mileage is pretty low like a tank every week and a half to two weeks. if your fix works id like to know so i can do it.

I bought a Bosal down pipe when I did the B6 swap. I dont think there is any diff between either Bosal or Walker.
Get the cheapest of the 2. Ha!

I had a shop do the cat back. I dont like doing exhausts!

I buy OEM-fit parts and just bolt stuff together; no welding capability or equipment here. Sometimes (like right now on my Aspire) I have to take parts in to a muffler shop to weld them together. I just installed Matt's header on the MPG Aspire SE yesterday. To mate it to the stock B-pipe I have Matt's flex coupling with flange; to connect that to the header I just bought a piece of straight pipe to cut to the proper length, and an adaptor piece. The flex coupling, straight pipe and adaptor come to about two feet in length; all I have to do is cut the pipe, test-fit for length, then take it in for welding. Probably ~$15.

Yeah I will either cut off the flange from the cat side of the intermediate pipe, or try out one of those universal flanges that Autozone sells.

Also Autozone is probably the cheapest way to get a oem muffler, Walker SoundFX shipped to you door by fedex is $36, but you have to order it from the store, don't order it offline or you will pay for the shipping. Has the hangers as well.
