  • EXP: needed .. Valve Cover Gasket

I am about to chew into a new project, replacing the valve cover gasket. I have been leaking oil, mainly down the front just under the cover onto the manifold. I have the Hayes Manual and read it a couple times. As with most how-to manuals, I am sure there are tries and true short cuts and better ways to do it tech out there.

Once I tear into it, is ther anything else that makes sense to change or replace now with the valve cover off? Timing belt tips and tricks?

    93 L stock engine

    Thanks
    David

It's kinda tricky getting the valve cover up past the throttle body. I know a few people have ground some on the bottom edge of the throttle body to give a little more clearance

Always make sure to clean out the baffle plate, or whatever it is called out. It's on the inside top of the valve cover. It is held in place with alot of Philips head screws

Greg, why does the TB have that one stud? Anybody ever replace it with a bolt?

Not sure, probably for aligning the gasket, while installing the tb.

You can remove the valvecover with the tb in place. You need to rotate the engine while fiddling with the cover and once the intake rockers are in the right place the cover will slip out. I did this last week when I filled my engine with oil for the first time. Crazyrog told me about it and it worked perfectly.

You know what is funny? I NEVER had to play with it for removal, I always was able to just pop the VC off, UNTIL someone mentioned to me that they get stuck and can be tricky to get past the TB. THEN, every time I go to do one, I have to fiddle with it to get it off. Go figure.

Haha. This was the first time I had done it without just yanking the tb off. Made it so much easier.
