  • Rear Window Defogger Kit

Years ago, I used to install aftermarket components on cars and trucks. A popular item was a rear window defogger/defroster kit.
I am very familiar with how to do these, I just can't find one anywhere. The company I worked for used Audiovox, but I am fairly confident I can install one that is not Audiovox.
Does anyone know of a kit somewhere? Any ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks, but I don't have a clue how to install a window. I do have lots of experience putting aftermarket window defrosters on though...

I'm with ya man. I used to do all that stuff when I worked for a custom car shop. Was there off and on over the last 20 yrs doing mostly Custom Audio and lots of accessories and more recently remote starts. I always remembered doing the defrosters but can't remember who made them. Like you, I have since wanted to do 'em on my Festivas but can't remember either.

We used Audiovox. A remote start would be cool, but can't on a stick shift. I will be installing power locks this coming spring and a keyless entry as well. I really would like a rear window defroster though. I know they are out there, just can't find one

I found one. $75 or so
Clear View defrosters can be applied directly to existing windows and match the look and performance of factory defrosters.

Might have to take time to do this. Awesome.

I did locks on my silver Festiva. Were DEI pieces and worked sweet. Will probably put them on my current build too as well as this defroster if I can't come up with a factory hatch with one installed that works (yeah right!!!)

iriegnome, use the search button, there are several good write ups on how to change the rear window.
An idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

irie, get a Festiva hatch glass with a factory grid from the wreckers.
I removed and reinstalled my own with the hatch off the car and on the grass.
Be sure and use the rope technique.

As for power locks there are lots of good threads. Here's one.
I have two Protege actuators and a Ford power door lock kit for sale.

I can do the power locks in my sleep, no problems with that. Don't know anything about changing glass and I hate working with glass.

That is the same one I found. Not going to change the glass, not something I can do

^ i didn't see how adding the heater requires changing the glass... this is a unit held on by adhesive.
