  • Anybody Know ?????

There is what appears to be a sensor that screws directly into the radiator. Is that for the temperature gauge? I had to pull the radiator and broke the wires to that off. Can it be repaired or does it have to be replaced? :dontknow:

I believe its the sensor that controls the cooling fan, if you have a soldering iron you could probably do a quick repair. If the sensor looks old and corroded, I would probably just replace it and grab a new pig tail from the junkyard.

Are you talking about a Festiva or Aspire? I'm thinking its a coolant level sensor. The fan sensor is in the thermostat housing. At least that's what my book says.

The bottom sensor must not be too important, whatever it is. The two new (aftermarket, eBay) rads I got were complete minus that sensor. It hasn't caused me any ill-effects.

I believe no new rad comes with this sensor, though I could be wrong.

          Spike, you are correct!

Floyd, you dont have to bother to replace the sensor, like Spike stated, it really is not needed. I have an aftermarket rad and doesnt have the sensor. Everything is fine without it.

Is this what your sensor looks like?

I have a new one for $5 + shipping for you.

I will include two new open barrel terminals + boots.
This will allow you to professionally reterminate the broken wires.

If you think you can get away without the sensor, then good luck.

My '89 auto HAD the same sensor. Until I replaced the radiator which had no mounting provision for said sensor.

Been running it for approx. 1 year with no problems.

                  Hope this helps.

                    I found what it's called.
                    A radiator cooling fan switch.
