  • clutch wont dissinguage?

I finished my motor swap and lift and drove great for 3 hours but then there was a low tick then it went away then after driving and every time I pushed in the clutch it would make a ratchet sound then not soon after it wouldn't go into gear but the clutch is still fine and grabs just fine and it feels like there is no spots for the gears to inguage but can work in to them if I'm moving... did the through out barring fail or what else would it be?

If you provide some more information it will be helpful.
We will assume that you have checked to make sure the clutch cable is activating the release lever and the clutch still does not release when the cable is
    tightened to the max.

Reading from the service manual for reasons why the clutch is not disengaging:
Excessive clutch pedal play - Adjust Clutch pedal (Assumption noted above)
Excessive deflection and distortion of clutch disc - Replace clutch disc
Clutch disc spline is worn or rusted - remove the rust and replace the clutch disc
Clutch cable is worn or broken - repair or replace clutch cable (Assumption noted above)
Diapharagm spring is fatigued - replace the pressure plate

Other possibilities: The release fork attaching bolt has backed out within the clutch housing which
would prevent it from moving the release bearing forward to disengage the clutch.

Answer to this question will help a lot -- are you still getting resistance at the release lever?

Other transmission/clutch experts --- please chime in here I've changed a few clutches over the years but I'm by no means an expert.

Sounds to me like the throw out bearing may have not been spinning and ate through the pressure plate fingers.....

Yea I checked the chutch peddle and cable I tightened the cable too did nothing the lever thang the cable connects to on the out side of the tranny still is stiff and seams to be in all working order but it drives good and grabs normal if I don't use the clutch and shift without it ( had to do that for 30 miles to get to the town where I live) but the clutch peddel play is the same. There was also fluid dripping from the bellhousing when I got to nebraska it didn't look like tranny fluid and it didn't taste quite like oil haha so rear main and the tranny seal?

I have yet to take the tranny and motor out to see what the pressure plate is like ill be doing that tomorrow hopefully at at a old coaches place who has restored a lot of cars so hopefully he can help cuz I've done everyy thang solo on this build and help would be nice

But if the release barring did eat through the pressure plate what all would I have to replace and what should I use to replace it with also

If it did eat up the pressure plate, you will need a new throw out bearing and pressure plate. I'd probably replace the clutch disc also as you normally get a better deal on a kit than separate components. Did you use a new clutch kit or was this the used items?
Throw out bearing is old school for release bearing.

Are you running a stock transmission? What motor are you running? B3 or larger? I looked at the upper post but didn't see anything on the motor you are running.

Most people recommend the Exedy from Ebay. They are about 110 or so. Just make sure you get it for the Festiva trans not a G series.

I've never used the Exedy but it seems to hold more HP than anything that bolts to the stock flywheel from what I've seen on here. ( I know about the Suzuki for those in the know, I mean without modding the flywheel).
I put a used clutch in mine and then blew the diff. Trans seemed fine but I think I damaged a spider gear when I power shifted from first to second.
