Is the hose a 2" or so diameter silver flex hose? If so, it goes to the filter housing on the carb to heat the air during cold starts in the winter. If not, try to post a pict of the hose for us.

It wouldn't hurt to clean the sparkplugs, ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor, at no cost to you, when you have time.
There are photos and diagrams of the various hoses in old articles in this forum. They can accessed using the search feature. Well if you had the air cleaner on there it would be really obvious where that goes, please tell me you are not driving around with the carb open like that... There is a metal box on the side of it that has two fittings for emissions control stuffs

that's part of the PAIR (passive air injection reaction) system, that deeper hose is the other half of the system (it feeds fresh air into the cat, if there's still a cat in the exhaust).Trees aren't kind to me...

Is it something I need to worry about or can I just turn it yo the side and let it be? When the engine gets warm it does starts to smoke. I will probably be taking the cat off at some point.Comment

without it working properly, it CAN cause the cat to melt... for the time being, that tube should be capped along with the other tube to help seal the exhaust system.Trees aren't kind to me...
