  • Climate control renewal.

First off, I used the search and came up nil.

So, I am looking for a way to renew the seals inside the climate control box (or whatever it is called). All of my moving parts move correctly the mixer mixes, however the seals are not sealing and I think a bit of the ducting is either cracked or disconnected.

I am aware about the no heat from the center vents, one of the problems is that those vents leak by cold air all of the time.

Anyone have info on this? Would like a diagram or pictures, or just some friendly advice before I go poking around where I don't belong.

    Thanks!

I locked the center vent closed and removed the linkage from it so the rest of the vents work properly. No cold air leaks anymore.

The center vent is controlled by a linkage piece coming from the bottom. I unhooked it from the bottom, cut it shorter and bent a loop in it. I glued a thin piece of foam around the center vent opening from behind so it would help the leakage even when closed. I then screwed the linkage loop into the side of the vent box while holding the vent closed. Of course the dash has to be removed to do this but it works perfectly. ALL other vents work, I just don't get any cold blow-by from the center vents. With the dash removed the instructions will become more clear and easy to understand. I was planning on doing a couple other mods to the vent system as well so I will try and get a few pics, But will be a while cause my garage is currently full with my current build getting started.

Also, I do not have a/c and never plan on it so this mod is perfect for me and anyone with the same situation.

Thanks for the info. Its at least a start. I do have a/c so I won't be blocking it. Now I have a starting point.

The only way to properly replace all of the crumbling, flattened old foam seals on all of the dampers in the blower assembly, is to open both doors, take off the dash, remove the blower assembly and split it apart. That job is best left to a nice warm, sunny day in the summer, where you can enjoy a nice cold brewski every hour. Don't forget to also replace the foam around the center duct where the dash splitter contacts the blower assembly. I just used a chisel to scrape off all of the old material.

For a quick temp fix. Remove the two screws from the black.
Block off plate on your firewall it has a small arrow on it.
remove it reach inside and feel for a hole with mesh covering it.
you will want to block this off I used plastic. Masking material.
a trash bag should work. Tape it down and your done no more cold air.

As more and more luxuries are ticked off my "fully loaded" list, I have decided to start searching for a single DIN digital climate controller. I would have to wire motors on all three dampers. Does anyone know of a single DIN climate controller?
I want something that lights up like a Christmas tree. Bling, bling + something to do in order to stay out of trouble.

Do Audi A4s show up at the junkyard?

Did you upgrade yours? Mines just the regular manual controls with the rns-315 above it.
