    (caution: I don't do carb festivas)

    How's the idle? If it idles rough and is backfiring through the carb, check your firing order.

          With the engine shut off, hold the choke open, look down the throat of the carb and move the linkage from closed to wide open. You should see a solid stream of gas squirt into the throat of the carb each time you turn the linkage. If you don't see any gas, your accelerator pump may be bad or your float level extremely low. If you see gas, check for vacuum leaks on your intake, either an uncapped connection or a leaking flange connection.
          You gonna race that thing?

              I kinda told you a few times that you would need smaller jets...that kit was for a 2.0+ liter engine

                Check your timing and make sure it is right.
                Improper size jets should not cause a backfire. When I first got my weber, it had huge jets in it .... it still ran. It ran rich and bogged some, but ran pretty well for how big the jets were.
                And as mentioned, check for vacuum leaks, as they will cause it to misfire.

                DO NOT use vacuum caps. They will rot and crack and cause issues within 6 mos. Use vacuum line and connect one vac port to the next one with the line, effectively making a "cap".

                        Backfire = timing is off

                        If you have a backfire condition, jets will not fix it

                        As for the jets, start with .125
