  • rear drum brake swap?

when i bought my car i was told one rear wheel had been switched to aspire this made it a different bolt pattern i would like to switch back to regular tire will switching the drum brake to that of a festiva correct this problem how hard is it to change and how do i do it

Only way I can see one wheel being switched is if someone drilled out the stock beam to accept a aspire spindle if that's the case then you will need a festiva spindle. And drum/break parts.

Or he could widen the holes on the opposite side and fit another Aspire spindle/drum/brake hardware/bearings.
This way he would be half way to an Aspire swap.
Of course unless he had multi-patterned wheels he would need to carry two spares.

            Punctuation my son.
            Please use.

This is my interpretation of your string of words above:

Where do I find a spindle?
Is all this going to be hard to do?
I'm a complete novice when it comes to cars!

My concern is not so much getting a spindle (put out a WTB post in the For Sale section) is that the holes to mount said spindle are now opened to accept the wider Aspire spindle pattern.
Meaning location of the Festiva spindle is no longer exact.
You will have to make sure when installing the Festiva spindle that it is centered relative to the backing plate so your brakes engage correctly.
Not hard, but some attention to detail is going to be required.
So when you get this done, with some help from everyone here, you wont be able to say your a novice.
Also please be ready to post some pics, so it will be easier to help you.
Not sure how many people we have in NJ, but you also might want to give a better location, there might be someone close by who can lend a hand.

Until I see a picture of the rear beam both with and without the spindle(s) installed, I'm going to withhold comment, since I don't know exactly what has been done to the beam and what it will take to switch out to another spindle. Any chance you can get some pics so we know what you are up against?

Without the Aspire backing plate though (which the spindle goes through), you don't have a way of installing the larger shoes to fit the Aspire drum... But technically I guess its possible, though not very feasible. The bearings are the same for both at least.

                        Invoking interpretation protocol punctuation 1.

But before I start I don't know any of what I'm doing.

Assuming the progy translated your transmission correctly, I think before you do anything.
You need to see if you really have an Aspire Spindle.

Detailed instructions can be document here, provided we can understand what your asking.
Please spend the few seconds to type something more legible.

The point is to remove the rear grease cover off the drum and see what type of fastener is being used.
If it is a castellated nut and Cotter pin arrangement then you can safely proceed further.
If it is a crush nut, your done till you can get a replacement.
Because you should not re-use a crush nut.

I will be out of here for a few hours.
Others here can answer your questions regarding step by step to get to the grease cap, if needed.
Again a pic can help considerably.

A flat head screwdriver and a hammer. put the tip of the screwdriver between the cap and the drum and GENTLY tap it with a hammer until a small gap appears. Then go around the cap with the screwdriver and twist it to progressively lift the cap as you go around. You will get to a point where the cap will be loose enough that you can pop it off by hand.
