Deep breaths man. That seriously sucks, but it's nothing that can't be fixed with the next size up thread tap + bolts. Your almost there!

Just last week, I had a stripped out thread in the 5 spd, I am putting in Black Car. I have 11 heli-coil inserts left! I don't think I will ever use them all. lol
I would think it would be around 6-7 bucks to do that.

Gotta have the clutch alignment tool. I fought my last one putting it back together until I used the alignment tool. Trick is to wiggle it around making sure it moves freely within the clutch splines while tightening the pressure plate. This way when the input shaft goes in everything is aligned.1988 Ford Festiva "Sonic" BPT g25mr MS2 standalone ecu, FOTY '11, Best Beater FMV, Fan Favorite FMVI

I'm with Flyin on this one, if its going all the way to within 1/4" the clutch splines themselves are already engaged on the input shaft, but if the clutch plate is off center even a little bit then it won't want to seat into the pilot bearing. If its been tightened down enough to strip out threads then its not the backing plate binding on the axle that is causing the problem, though that is usually a point of trouble when reinstalling an engine with the axle in. I always notch mine about 1/4", just to make things smoother for installation. No festiva for me ATM...
