  • So, I'm looking to get my first Festiva (broken clutch fork?)

The guy said it supposedly has a broken clutch fork.
Seems hard for me to imagine, but the car's cheap...
I could replace it. The only problem is I cant seem to
find one anywhere. Where are you supposed to get
replacement parts for these? I really don't want to
buy the car if I cant find one. Any help would be
    awesome!

Somebody on here will have a broken trans that they would sell you the fork from.

Post a WTB ad, and I'm sure you'll get taken care of.

Besides that there is Rockauto.com and taking parts from other cars to replace/improve the stock stuff. Do plenty of reading in all the sections, and you'll find there are ways to keep these cars going.

Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

      Not here.

      Maybe here?

Obviously, you are going to replace the clutch and throwout bearing also when you remove the transmission.

How does the seller know it is the clutch fork? I don't know a whole lot about transmissions but if it is not working I would plan to have to replace the whole transmission. I'd rather error on the worst side just in case.

You know, people have put on 400,000-500,00 miles on a festy tranny, and I have not heard anyone ever mention a broken clutch fork!

I wonder what is really wrong with it? I'll bet it is something more like a bad clutch, throw out bearing, or similar.
There really is no wear on the lever, or the fork for the throw out bearing

^that or possible a broken cable. I can't see the fork breaking. And if it did It would be hard to diagnose from out side if the transmission if not impossible.

SWRT ... go look at it, grab the fork and see if it "swings" back and forth. If the fork is broken, it should move a lot. Check the clutch cable to see if it is broke.

Like mentioned above, you should be able to get whatever parts you need from a member here. (cheap!)

Both of them can be checked somewhat from outside, the clutch cable attaches to the fork arm. Pull on the cable and fork, see what happens.
If those appear alright, then something else is broke.
Tranny's can be had for $75- $150. Post a WTB for whatever you need.

i don't remember this ever being an issue on the forums. i'd check externally for: adjustment nut or threads at end of clutch cable partially stripped/missing. is cable mounting bracket securely attached to trans? release lever return spring present and attached? if that all checks out, i'd remove spring and cable from lever and move the lever backward and forward. the rod of the lever goes down into the trans and through the end of the actual bearing fork. a small screw holds the rod into the end of the fork. if moving the lever is easy, the screw might of sheared. if the lever has some slop when jiggled, the plastic rod bushings might be shot. since i have no conscious or religion, i'd tell the seller it's junk and offer scrap value.

Sorry guys. I couldn't get back on the computer yesterday.
Holy crap you have an awesome and responsive community.

I'll try and go check it out tonight. I'll see what I can come up with.
I've actually only done on clutch job on my Subaru and I thought it
was unlikely that the fork could break, but I didnt know how Ford
constructed these. Thanks a lot guys

Screw the forester and get the festiva lol jk

If you can get the festiva you won't regret it

FWIW I once drove a Festiva into my garage, pulled the stock engine and replaced it, and drove it back out of the garage with the new engine 4-1/2 hours later.... These things in stock form are very easy to work on lol
