  • Having problems with my ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP still!!

Hey I am still having problems with my electric fuel pump after 10minutes of driving the electric fuel pump will go really loud and my car will stall. It will restart again after it sits for 15-20 minutes or straight away if I pour a bottle of water on it

It is getting too hot some how

    Could someone please help ??

We have a repair help section for a reason, it's where these kind of questions belong

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Do you have the elec pump hooked DIRECTLY to the Carb? Do not run BOTH pumps as you were before!!!!

^ What he said. If you have an EFI tank, use the pump in the tank. The gas in the tank keeps the pump cool. If you have a carb you will need a pressure regulator as carbs use 3 lbs of pressure and efi pumps are more like 15 lbs of pressure. To much pressure can flood the carb

Good one Dan-o. I didn't think of him having a carby model and possibly putting an efi external pump on it.

Better pumps have a bypass on them.

As I mentioned in your other post, the pump needs to be as close to the tank as possible, not in the engine bay. A bypass fuel regulator would help out because it will allow cool fuel to run through the pump instead of it being dead headed when the needle valve is closed by the float. Also, when your pump overheats, open your fuel cap and see if you hear a woosh sound. If your tank isn't vented, it would be like you sticking a straw in a sealed plastic bag and sucking on it.

So 1.5 meters of fuel line is too much to spend in an attempt to solve this problem?

Who said to run fuel line?! We said put a pump close to the tank. Don't have to run new fuel line for that.

You are obviously NOT listening to anything we mention on here. Cheap electric fuel pumps wont last, especially sitting mounted up high up in the engine bay, as you have yours mounted.

Electric fuel pumps are meant to PUSH fuel, not PULL it. The elec pump you have is having to pull fuel all the way from the tank up to the engine bay, is hard on it, and why it gets hot.

There is nothing wrong with the in-tank pump as the fuel filter fills up quickly so I'm guessing there is nothing wrong with it so no point replacing it. I have tryed to just run the 1 pump but still over heated. It's not an EFI tank it's carby.. Well I thought u do have to run more fuel line!. Yes I am listening. Okay I understand that... So run the electric fuel pump right near the fuel tank ? Use all make it sound so easy! The PROBLEM IS NOW FIXED finally!!! I brought a fuel filter which allows it to cool down. But still going to mount it closer to fuel tank.
