Alrighty I have a question for all of you running the G-series transmission.
Am I correct in believing this transmission is also called the G5M or G5M-R?
Well if that is the case, what do you guys run in your G-Series transmissions?
I ask because my folk's 2006 Ford Fusion 5-speed has a G5M transmission, and calls for 75w-90 GL4 transmission fluid. Now EVERYTHING on store shelves is GL5, and from what I can find GL5 in a GL4 transmission is a big no-no because it is corrosive, and eats away at the synchros, probably why running gear oil in our stock E-Series transmissions will kill it eventually, because the people who have killed Festy transmission with this stuff probably used GL5 rated stuff.
Now the only 75w90 GL4 Gear oil I can find through research is Amsoil 75w-90, and Redline MT90, but $15 a bottle plus shipping is ridiculous, and you can only order it online. The only other option is going straight to the dealer for the oil, which I am afraid would just be as expensive, if not more.
I have heard that the G5M was also used in Escorts which called for straight Mercon ATF (Like the stock festy transmission), and on the Probe boards say they have used Pennzoil Syncromesh in their G5Ms with success, while the guy who put GL5 rated 75w-90 in his at 50k miles killed his transmission only 10k miles later after losing 3 gears. Heck I currently use Pennzoil Synchromesh in my stock e-series and have had no trouble at all.
