  • starts, then dies? any fixes...

daughter has a 92 festiva, stick and my boy was checking the fluids and opened the air breather to check the filter and now it won't run. it will start but then dies right after. could it be that he jared the mass air flow sensor? i had the top of the air breather off and the flapper door moves in the air stream but thats as far as i have checked. please help on any fixes. thanks.

did he disconnect the wiring at the sensor? if so, check the connectors to see if something is mis-aligned.

looked at that real good and looked fine to me. does anyone have a test for that or can it be by-passed for test purposes.

inspect the rubber intake tube going to the intake manifold, especially the acordian tube just before the left turn in the tube for any holes and also make sure all of the tubes going to the intake tube is tight.

THERE CAN NOT BE ANY HOLES TO THE OUTSIDE AIR BETWEEN THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE AIRBOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The same behavior will also occur if you unscrew the screws that hold the connector on the air mass flow meter and try to remove the wired connector!
Best thing to do is swap a working AMF meter for a known good one!
