  • oil leaking from timing belt side still.

So I have a leak. I just replaced the timing belt and both seals upper and lower. I gambled on not doing the inner seal behind the oil pump for some reason. I thought doing the outer seal would be enough but its still leaking and just seems to be getting worse. i'm wondering if its more likely the oil pan gasket or the inner seal. it seems to be contacting the crank pulley and gets slung about the engine bay. Thanks in advanced

Clean off the area with brake cleaner (in aerosol can), drive it, then look to see exact point of leakage. Check both the camshaft seal and the crank seal. The inner oil pump seal would not affect leakage outside the motor. The oil pan gasket is probably not the problem either, but it might be if the motor is very high-mileage.

The crankshaft seal might be the problem, as it is on my Aspire, due to an imperfection on the crank itself, like a scratch where the gasket is--maybe a previous repairer gouged the crank with a screwdriver or something. In that case, try installing a new seal (you will probably destroy the one you just installed when you remove it), but don't install it totally flush with the block; leave it about 1mm sticking out, to hopefully get past the scratch or whatever it is.

Yea its definitely not the cam seal. I've pin pointed it at either the u in the oil pan or the crank seal are leaking. I'm going to do the pan first since i've never had it off. Thanks again

Oil pan RARELY leak. I doubt it is the pan. Check crank seal.

+1, don't open up a can of worms by doing the oil pan first. Check crank seal!
