HELP!! I need to know if JB weld or the like can hold together a thermo housing

    Glad you found you had a spare.

    Note to those in the future: Use something to hold that thermostat in place (I used super glue - I'm a horrible person I know). If it slips (you likely won't be able to notice it slipped until it's too late) and you tighten those bolts, you'll hear a horrible *snap* sound.

    That is the sound of needing a new thermostat housing.

      I use a little grease to hold the T-stat in place.

        I'd go with Seal all/ high heat rubber cement in a tube. I sealed my leaky tank with athe seal spray can after I rubber cemented it. It might work!

          The housings are made of cast aluminum. Crappy material, and porous. Alum is great as billet, but not so much as cast. Very brittle, absolutely no flex and ... snap! crackle! pop! if bent the slightest. If you use JB, it MUST BE CLEAN!!! AND SANDED! before it can be out on. I cant stress enough about CLEAN! Most glues and adhesives and epoxies will FAIL! because the part was not properly CLEANED! Sanding gives the stuff something to hold onto. CLEAN! again after sanding.

          I found some stuff that is much better than JB, believe it or not. It is called Blue Magic Steel Epoxy. It is similar to the gas tank repair stuff, in that it comes in putty form and will STAY where you put it. JB will always try to run, while setting up, and causes it to be thin and weak.
          Neade the putty together to mix the 2 parts and when dry (20 min) can be drilled, tapped, filed, anything. Tough as nails!

          Clean it, sand it, and it clean again. Put it together, Apply and dry. It should hold a long time, if done properly

          The best cleaners will be Acetone or Lacquer Thinner.
