  • 2000 Festiva 4 speed auto issues

So it's was my first time dropping an auto teams on my ford festiva to repair the torque converter seal. I replaced the seal and seated the torque converter and reinstalled the box. Anyways once put back together I refilled the fluid and all was well to drive. To the issue about 2 hrs later the vehicle began to slip and the rpm would raise but the vehicle wouldn't go anywhere. It was also very jerky and ruff on shifts and would prolong before shifting. I'm not sure if a cable maybe installed wrong or topping up the auto trans down the dipstick was possibly wrong?
If anyone has any ideas of what to test or possibly the cause that'd be great!
    Cheers.

did you make sure when you checked the trans fluid you had the car on flat ground in neutral you may be low on atf

Down the dip stick is fine and probably the only way. It should say on the stick to check hot or cold if that will matter much. ATF gets on the stick after you add some and makes you think it is fuller than it really is. After you add let it settle for a bit before you go for the accurate read of the stick. Over here ATF is getting bad getting the right kind of fluid. Heck, sometimes its hard to figure out what is the right kind of fluid. You did the right thing though to stop before it was a lot of smoke!

          Thanks for you're response.
I didn't fill the fluid up in neutral just in park then after a couple of litres ran the vehicle and cycle through gears slowly before repeating process.

as for the atf according to the dipstick its overfilled if anything and it's been sitting for a few days. So my thought is could it be internal? Or could the shifter or either of those cable connections on the top be at fault?
See it was perfectly fine for 2 hrs before it decided to start revving up and not shifting til lik 3500rpm and when it does it's a lumpy shift not smooth like you'd expect with your autos.
          Any ideas?

Have some one idle it in drive while you check the level. Maybe there is air trapped in a clutch or something and the level drops when you put it in gear. That would be your true level.

Where are you located? Curious to know more about the 4spd.

I'll give that a try tomorrow as I just got back from camping. I'm located in Western Australia. Our 1.3L festivas have 3 spd autos and the 1.5l like mine has the 4 spd unless of course it's manual.
Cheers for responses guys very appreciated. 👍🏻
