I just spent an hour or so not installing my B6 disty. I've done this before on Festys and Aspires, simple procedure, and this one looks no different. But I can't get it to go in the last 3/16"; it always gets stuck at the same point. There is no external obstruction like a wire, hose etc.--it's clear all around. I have the #1 piston at TDC with the crankshaft sprocket notch facing up, as well as the camshaft sprocket. Rotor is pointing at #1 plug wire position. Like I said, goes in fine until that last 3/16". Do I need to hold my mouth a certain way, sacrifice a small animal to some god, or stand on only one leg? If so, which leg?

No, this is a freshly-rebuilt head and cam. Everything is spotless.

Did you give blood? Sometimes you have to give blood, sweat, and tears.

Try wiggling it. Maybe another dizzy?

I'll try giving blood tmw. Tears will come after that. Done lots of wiggling (of the disty). Even tried another gen2 B6 disty, no luck. I'll try these two distys in my other gen2 B6 head to see if they fit easily in there. If so, that will tell me it is an issue with the rebuild.

Tapping on the outside of the dizzy housing while it's almost in with a hammer. Lightly.

No I haven't. Shouldn't be needed, but I guess you never know. Gonna try installs in the other head first; that should tell me something.

I couldn't fit mine either. I measured with a vernier caliper but gave up to quickly. I will get back to it again sometime during the winter. I did not hammer it in. You should not have to.

                      I had to know.

Went out and tried my two distys in the other head. Both went in very easily. :banghead: :banghead:

Tmw's plan: unadjust the manually-adjusted valves, loosen the valvetrain bolts, try to install it. I'm thinking there is some some sort of microscopic alignment issue that isn't letting it happen. But first I will try one more thing: sticking in a Festy EFI B3 disty. I think that will work electronically if I have to go that route; the only issue is that I can only use one bolt to hold the disty on, since the gen2 head has its lower bolt slot at a different angle than Festys and gen1 B6s. Not a biggie tho, I know some people only use one bolt anyway.

                        GOT IT! :-)

                        The solution: tappy tappy.

I used the 12mm socket with 6" extension to screw in the bottom bolt by hand, while simultaneously tapping on the disty cap screw area that is facing you when you are at the front of the car. It's a little ear that sticks out and is great for light tapping on, and is about 180 degrees from the bottom bolt. The disty went in very easily, and no small animals had to be sacrificed.

I'm thinking the main reason it was so hard to do before was simply the rubber O-ring was still pretty new, so it stuck out and caused too much friction. But both distys went into the other head easily.....maybe the disty hole's bore is slightly smaller in this head.... Whatever, it's on.

Thanx Flyin4stroke; hope this helps you brave.

I thought it had something to do with the solid wings (as opposed to the sheet metal wings)
That is why I measured everything. It should go into the slot but it didn't. I was scared to break something.
I did not take into account a big fat O-ring. I will certainly try again.
