I used grease; didn't help. That was one tight o-ring.

Hope to crank it up tmw. Still have to finish putting it back together (not that much to do really), and have to go get exhaust connector pieces at McParts. I'll crank it up just to check stuff, then add coolant, and remove the exhaust pieces and take 'em in to my fave exhaust shop to weld some of them. In a couple of places I'll still use clamps for ease of removal.

I think today I'll install the exhaust to see what I will need in terms of spacing, and pipe length.

I think that will work electronically if I have to go that route; the only issue is that I can only use one bolt to hold the disty on, since the gen2 head has its lower bolt slot at a different angle than Festys and gen1 B6s. Not a biggie tho, I know some people only use one bolt anyway.
They are different? I would swear I am using a B3 dizzy in my second gen B6.

Just ran into a similar issue to some of you guys. I have the b3 disty in the B8 sohc, but it took FOREVER to install. However, when I went to retard the timing - it didn't have enough play. So, I took both 12mm bolts out and went back even further until the engine lost the continuous misfire. I have a timing light, but how do I get it to stay there with no way to mount it in place? Suggestions?

Make a tab that you can bolt one end to the head and the other end to the dizzy ear.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Founds like it could be 180* out of time. On a b3 distributor you can install the rotor in 3 different directions. It can be easy to install 180* out the rotor will be somewhat close if you do it right but the actual shaft is what is 180* out not the rotor.

I thought that too, until I took it apart and realized it wasn't. Does anyone know if you can go ahead and use the b8 distributor?

Otherwise the tab sketchman suggested is going in.

If its the original b8 disty I don't see why not. As in the sohc disty
