  • fan switching on and off

Hi, i registered to this forum simply because now i cannot find the thermoswitch that s supposed to switch on and off the cooling fan. the fan switches on, immediately switches of. or it spins for a few seconds/minutes and switches off. also does this when driving, and it s basically... a huge battery drain...

the problem is, my Kia Pride 1,3 L 64Hp Honeybee, has a thermostat housing that has no switch in it. so i checked the low radiatorhose, no switch. i checked the hose as far as i could follow it into the engine, no switch. thermostat housing, no switch.

    things i checked:
-bubbles: well... i did some bleeding before replacing the sensor.
-this afternoon, i twisted the radiator cap and heard a huge *pssshh*... so... is the bubble gone now, meaning i did the bubbling wrong (cool engine) previously?
-coolant temp. sensor (replaced, didnt solve it)
-main relay (tested a new one at the parts shop, still clicked on/off)
-bought a new thermostat, but that s a mechanical part so i think i m going to send that back.
-cleaned and sprayed (wd40) the ground wire near the spark plugs.

since i just fixed 2 small thingies this afternoon, and i didnt take it to ANOTHER testdrive, i m not so sure whether or not i fixed it or didnt change anything. i thought "well, tonight we re going for a workout so that s a nice testdrive", i guess i ll post the results after this evening. meanwhile, could someone tell me WHERE S THAT THERMOSWITCH?! serious, i cant sleep at night... (is it... inside the engine? why would anyone do that?! just to bug me whenever the thing breaks? is Kia that evil???)

wow, that s a nice document to save and lock into a nice vault i could nt find anything alike anywhere (yes, googled untill my eyes popped).

as far as i can understand, the thermoswitch is in the thermostat housing. well, than it would be at the back of it or something, because i couldnt see it or any wires hanging from it. and now i can t find the coolant temperature sensor in the pdf. as far as i know, "water temp sw" stands for the actual switch, the fan switch. but then there s no temperature sensore, wich i d expect to be said as "sn" or anything else than "sw". so how does it work, with a mechanical switch or is my car so advanced (more than any BMW from 96) that it switches on/off from the temp sensor and the ECU? several mechanics told me that that s nearly impossible since it s a car from 96.

also, the temperature sensor appears to be in another scheme, the one from the meter and warning lights (p29)

now this: i bought a new thermostat, since i think Truus isnt getting hot enough. i was about to change the thermostat, only to discover 2 things: 1. that hose was dirty!!! awefull... gross... AFTER using radiator flush. well, the hose is clean now and i filled the system with water (only temporarily offcourse). 2. i basically have to undress half of my engine bay to get to the thermostat... there s a radiator pipe going right over the 2nd bolt of the thermostat house, so my socket wrench doesnt go there...

The best wrench to use for that bottom bolt is a ratcheting 12mm box wrench.
