  • Died while driving

So my festiva my b8-me swap has been running good and strong but today it seemed to lean out and shut off on me while driving. So I checked my fuel it was good got fuel coming out of the injectors. So then I checked spark. Got spark checked timing and I got timing set ignition and belt. Darn thing still wo t start. It sounds like it always does when cranking but going to do a compression test tomorrow. Just looking for ideas as to what could be wrong. Darn thing won't even sputter. I also tried changing out my coil. I have spark at the plugs. It seems it has everything it needs to run but just won't start. Could it be a bad dizzy sending the signal late or early to the coil? Going to try a spare vaf and dizzy tomorrow too. Fuses are all good as well.

Checked those too they are good. I have started the car without the vaf before and it would run if I used the throttle. Thinking my distributor might be bad

Good Grief... this title gave me a little scare... is that my fate?
Will I die while driving my Festiva? but then.. if you have to go, what a pleasant way.

Not sure myself but it wouldn't start with the bad dizzy but would when I swapped it out. I also noticed it would try to fire right after I was done cranking it. Sometimes a cylinder would fire at the end of cranking. It was strange. Possibly it was sending the fire signal at the wrong time.

Check the old dizzy for a loose rotor and or carbon tracking.

Timing on the distributor could be off or not passing on full power of spark. I think either would show some spark at the plug. Did you try cleaning cap, rotor, and wires? Another thing could be the electronic module but they are getting pricey to replace.
