  • Oil in the air cleaner housing?

Hi all was wondering if anybody else has had this problem, my 89 weber carbed periodically ends up with some oil spray in the air cleaner area. It is coming from the hose that runs up from the valve cover, i believe it is called a crankcase breather hose. I have the original air cleaner holder slightly modified to fit the weber, i had this problem before i did this rebuild but i knew i had a bad cylinder, it was so bad that i could not rebuild that motor, i got another b3 and rebuilt it, it has around 30,000 on the rebuild. I have checked compression and all cyclinder check out pretty high. Soo im not sure what us going on, as i said it only happens once in a while i will clean it out check it every week and sometimes its 2 weeks between incidents other times it goes 4 to 5 weeks between incidents this is my dd and gets at least 500 miles a week put on it.

    Thanks ahead of time

Maybe a bad PCV valve. Simple and cheap to replace, so I'd start there.

Shake PCV valve and if it's making a clear sharp rattle it should be okay. If it's new the spring should be good so spray inside with WD-40 to clean it out. Also there's a little filtre inside the air cleaner you can check for gunk. On mine it's a piece of sponge rubber. It can be taken out and cleaned with soap and water. Dirty PCV and filtre would be symtoms of oil coming from engine. I think that would be blowby from rings (or valves?). Maybe a chemical additive cleaner would help?

Yeah, check the PCV like WmWatt sez.

Because he has a Weber, and probably the Weber air filter, no little oil filter in the air filter housing.

Ok checked and cleaned pcv valve seemed to be working properly even befor cleaning gonna run some cleaner through it then do my oil change. Been trying to pinpoint when i notice this oil and it seems like when i get out on the 4 lanes runnin 65 to 70 is when ive noticed this afterwards a few times, dont think this would really matter just throwing it out there

Still getting oil in air filter housing?? Did you use the sea foam through a vaccum line method or pour in the oil??

I'm pretty sure he poured it in the oil. PCV valves and new grommets are only a couple of dollars on Rock Auto but the shipping will be a few extra. If you go to the HELP section of Oreillys or Advanced they should have the grommets and you can pick up a new PCV valve while you are there.

Also I would either clean or replace the hose that goes from the PCV valve to the Intake.

hello all i put the sea foam in the oil just poured it in cleaned pcv valve and checked the line it was good, also oil level was spot on as always since all my gaskets got changed awhile back. I have been keeping close eye on things so far so good hopefully i just had some crud build up in the motor and the sea foam and oil changes has flushed it all out only time will tell
