  • Any hope for every pivot in the shifter linkage shaft being loose?

Title says most, I'm getting ready to replace the clutch in my 92, I knew the shifter was sloppy but holy cow, every bit of the linkage is loose. there is a pivot under the shifter itself, and a vertical and horizontal pivot at the transmission, one has a bolt going through it, the other is just a pin. Is there a known fix for this?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Here you go.
Use the search engine to find a lot of great information on rebuilding shifter linkage.

If you have a NAPA auto parts store close by, the part number for them is 0771303. My local NAPA charged me $1.49 each.

It takes 6 to do the shifter linkage

Thanks for the advice, any tricks to getting the section that doesnt have a bolt apart? I haven't snatched it off yet since it was cold today and I was feeling lazy

I ended up cutting it out with a dremel and going to the junk yard to find a shoulder bolt and nut just like the other one in the joint to replace it.

The best, longest lasting, and maybe cheapest fix is Charlie's shoulder bolt and nylon washer upgrade. I spent less than ten bucks at the hardware store on shoulder bolts, washer, and nylock nuts. Add an eBay Civic short shifter for $7 bucks (comes with bearings instead of bushing) and it'll be the last time you'll have to worry about shifter bushings. I've done the shoulder bolt fix on four Festivas now, it works great. My '88 has around 25k miles on the shoudler bolt front joint and it hasn't loosened up any.

That looks ideal! I'm going to stick with 6 new bushings for the time being but i like the shoulder bolt idea. anything has to be better than it is now, it's hilariously loose. About half the time before i burned the clutch up trying to pull my delta 88 (oops) I'd find 3rd instead of first.

The napa part number worked perfectly, the shifter now works as intended. Thanks a ton for the tip!

I need to do this to mine. 3rd is often mistaken for 5th due to this issue
