Both are useable, I dunno if combining them is a good idea though.

dealer helm manual says ATF, so that would be what I would use.

Are there any special tools i need to take the tranny out?

Nope - 10, 12, 14, 17 mm sockets, ratchet and assorted extensions (12 mm wrench for holding ball joint bolt nut and the linkage bolt nut). Pry bar to pull down control arm to separate the ball joint from "spindle". I did use an engine crane to hold the one side of the engine, but you should be able to "rig" something up to hold it. Of course, you need a floor jack and jack stands to lift the car and the trans (trans is very light - 60 lbs, so you may be able to muscle it out and in).
19 mm socket for the drain plug.
Now once you pull the axles out you should put a wooden dowel (dowel about the diameter of the spline - I used pieces I cut off of a broom handle) in the casing to prevent the spider gears from falling out from the differential.
Pretty easy job - I suggest removing the battery and the battery tray and get your distributor cap off and out of the way. Then go to it.
I had more details in a different E-mail string but hopefully, this answers your tool question
