Highway hesitation, Check engine light

91 Festiva GL, 5spd

Often, while driving at the same speed on the highway, the power will drop off slightly and the check engine light will come on. I'll give it a little more gas, and it'll bog further. Then, I'll let off the gas, and stomp the pedal through it's full range a few times. When I do this, the power comes back, and the engine light will go out. I'm inclined to think this is the throttle position sensor acting up. Before I shell out 60 or so dollars on a new one, does anyone have any thoughts?

Im not sure what it could be, but i really doubt its the tps. Ours only senses 3 positions: Idle, wot and inbetween those 2.
If that was happening to me i would pull over the next time and check the code. Only takes a minute.

Also the tps should be pretty easy to inspect and test.

Check the code how? Sorry if that's a noob question. I knew how to pull the OBD1 code on my old Buick using a paperclip and counting the blinks on the dashboard, but I have not done anything of the sort with this car yet.

I'm thinking it might be useful to toss a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the tank. It's cheap to do and the solution might be that simple.
