  • Inner Tie Rod removal

Anyone know of an easy way to remove the Inner tie rod locknut Pin, that little pin that keeps the inner tie rod from unscrewing? Ford has a special tool that looks like a miniature slide hammer, put the parts stores don't carry anything like that.

Just unscrew the rod end. The pin will slide out slightly to clear the threads by itself.

You can put a pipe wrench on the inner tie rod and just turn it. The pin will pop up by itself. I was told to use a pipe wrench by a few steering rack rebuilders. It worked like a charm.

        Tie Rod removal

Thanks, talked to a friend that works for a Ford dealership and he said the same thing. Just unscrew it slowly and it will pop up gradually and you can pull the pin out w/pliers.

My inner tie rods were on so tight I never could get them loose. Ended up replacing the whole rack.
