  • help?

    my battery light came on and my engine is running hot. any ides? it just happened today.
    I have owned 15 nissan/datsun's and 1 ford. What the hell is the matter with me?

    ok serisouly people need to read the rules first, A DESCRIPTIVE NAME and list your car year, engine type (efi or carb) ac, manual or automatic etc how freakin hard is this

      Battery light and overheat at the same time , Is the belt still on it ??

          sorry, kinda new. 93, 5 spd. efi. 136000 miles. was running fine till today. the battery light came on. then the temp went up near the top. the idle is also higher than normal. any ideas.

            Probably loose belt, not enough to spin to water pump and alt...

                uh.....ya. my belt is missing. it must have come off on my 50 mile drive through the canyons yesterday. how lucky am i that i made it home without destroying the car? is that an easy fix?

                    "is that an easy fix?"

                    Its easier if you don't have A/C. Just loosen the adjustment bolt and also the mounting bolt ( little hard to get to ) on the generator and slide the belt on . Adjust the belt tension with a pry bar against the generator and re tighten both adjustment and mounting bolts. You will see once you look at it. Piece of cake.

                        Keep an eye on your antifreeze and oil the next few days.. If you ran for very long without any water pumping, you'll want to make sure you don't have a headgasket problem or (eek!) a cooked head.

                        BTW...this same thing happened to me last week.
