  • What is this?

What is the purpose of this sensor, it makes a clicking noise between 1000 and 1500 rpm's, is it supposed to make this noise?

Robert , I am having a hard time naming that , but the one hose goes to the intake plenum and the other goes to the EVAP canister .

I think at a certain RPM the solenoid opens and

Ha ha , just found it ..
The canister contains fuel vapors when the car is not running.

when the engine is running ..The electronic purge control solenoid opens and will burn these vapors .

So it must be RPM related to open, and purge the vapors .
So I would say it is normal to hear it click , that is when it is opening .

That is the hose I use , the one to the intake ..When I give mine a Seafoam treat

It clicks the whole time during that rpm range. Is it supposed to click all the time?

It does not say anything about that , did it just start doing , or has it always done it ??

The solenoid itself may be going bad .

It started doing it about 2 months ago , it took me this long to find out where it was coming from, lol. Will it hurt to unplug it?

Well I just got back in , I went to see if mine does that ...No it does not click all the time , in that RPM range .

It is just part of the emissions to help burn the vapors that build up when the car is not running , prolly more in the hotter weather .

You should be able to unplug it , see what happens , the clicking will stop , but I am unsure if it will throw the light on of not .

I bet the solenoid is going bad
