  • HELP HELP HELP! Aspire is a no go!

I was pulling out of my very snowy driveway.....My tires were spinning, as they finally connected with the road, I heard a clunk (not a real loud clunk, just kinda..thump) WELL NOW I'VE GOT NO GEARS! Nothing! I had to push is back down the driveway! The car runs and starts fine. When I try and put it in gear, it makes a grinding like it's just not getting to gear, and each gear is a different tone of grinding.....PLEASE HELP!

I'm lost on this one , but did a axle pop out , or break ?? I know they usually pretty tough and don't break .
I can't imagine something taking all the gears out at the same time .

Well after talking to my transmission scholar buddy, I guess the previously slipping clutch, can just take a dump all at once. so it looks like I have a clutch to replace soon. Does this sound possible to everyone?

I have never seen a clutch just go like yours did , from spinning wheels then hook up.

If the clutch was slipping , you would not even be able to put into gear at all ,
Will yours go all the way into the gear , or does it seem to be riding on top of the gear and grinding from that point .

Maybe the hub on the center of clutch disc failed/broke off?

That's it like it just isn't going into gear, like it's going towards gear, but not making it there. It's making it to the area where in gear would be, but it's not engaging at all. I'm REALLY hoping clutch is it....

It is possible , like Matt said , maybe the center was weak and broke out the center .

Just by chance , you did look to see if the cable is actuating the fork .

                ^^^^ lols packrat..

ok.. let me get this straight.. is the car in neutral? If so, you're pushing the clutch and it wont go into a gear.

I'm thinking maybe as you were backing up it popped out of gear.. have you looked at the clutch cable?

What part of the clutch cable should I be looking at, and wouldn't the clutch be hitting the floor, if the clutch cable were in fact broken?

There is a assist spring that helps it return to the top where the cable attaches to the fork assy.

Does the clutch feel easier to push ??
if the cable did break the fork would not move when you push the clutch in , where it goes into the tranny housing .

"Each gear has a different tone of grinding." Sounds like its almost going in to each gear. I'd check the cable and pedal first. Get somebody to push it for you and look at the top of the trans like dj said.

OK, so I've got a friend coming over to try and help. What am I looking for on the clutch cable? Is it just a simple...If it moves, it's OK, and if it doesn't it's not? it's feels a little loose....

Since it is making a grinding noise, my guess is that you broke an axle.
That would be easy to check, just turn you wheels all the way to one side and check each one.
If its the clutch cable, you should be able to put it into gear with the car off.
Then try starting it in gear, if its the clutch cable, starting it in gear should move the car.
If it were the clutch you wouldn't hear any grinding.
