I will bump this...since it is relevant to my question. Has anyone replaced the inner tie rods in the car (without removing the rack)? How difficult is it?
I plan on removing a rack from a parts car, just so I can see what i'm doing. Replacing the rods. Then swapping the unit as a hole. That way my car is down for the least amount of time.
You just start turning the tie-rod end like any other bolt. Righty Tighty - Lefty Loosey. The threads are standard LH threads. Once you get it about 2-3 turns off, the pin will start to push out. There is a flat spot with no threads if you look at the new tie-rod. That's where the pin is when its in. As you loosen the tie-rod the threads then push the pin out. It took me longer to cut the old boots off then it did to replace the tie-rods.
I noticed on ebay someone is selling a pair of inner tie rods but it states they are for 90-93, will they also fit 88-89? also do the inner tie rods come with new boots? I cant get the tie rod ends off so I guess just buying new inner tie rods for my aspire swap would be the best bet unless someone else has any tricks or tips. thanks in advance.
