Ok, im trying to get the crankshaft pulley off. Is it ok to rotate the pulley, since i have to set the timing anyways? I dont think i can get if off without rotating it.

use a good screwdriver. I'm assuming they are the original philips screws.

yea, their #2 phlips, the problem is that the engine is about 1/2 inch too high and i cant get a full length screwdriver in there, the angle is too extreme. so im trying to use a stubby screwdriver but its a no go.

Lower the engine more and rotate the pulley into position. As in the other thread, you don't need to put those back in so if you need to you can grind the heads off.

grind them or drill them... even if you did manage to get them out in one piece (like I did the first time I was working on one) there is a good chance you will lose them (also like I did ) and then you'll wonder why you went to all the trouble of getting them out intact anyway
                No festiva for me ATM...

Which screws are these? I don't remember any screws on any of my crank pulleys.

well we got the suckers out, once we lowered the engine they came out easily with an impact driver.

Those screws are only found on engines with the "small nose" crankshaft. If all you've ever worked on were "big nose" crankshaft engines, you would not have seen them because they are not used on them.
                      You gonna race that thing?

My B6D is a small-nose, I don't remember any screws when I pulled it. There are holes though, so maybe the PO removed them.

How did you lower the engine? I'm trying to do the same thing. Screws are stripped and I'm wanting to lower the engine in order to get a better angle on the screws to drill them out. I've loosened the support arm that runs under the transmission until it rested on the sway bar, loosened that to lower it a little cause I only need a little, but I don't think it's lowering anything.

Remove the passenger side engine mount (w/jack under oil pan).

Thanks. Got almost all off that I needed. Still trying to get to the water pump screw that's behind the ac compressor and I'll have it off. Getting ready for the new timing belt and water pump. But I've got some stuff that I'll have to start a new thread over. Thanks again for all your help.
