When I took off my steelies for the first time , I had some 13' alloys for it .
When the steelies would not budge , it became a ..I don't care anymore about the steelies , I pounded them with a 12lb. sledge , numerous times , before they finally came off . They were very stubborn .
Just be careful !!
I have always had trouble with the lugs , it has not been that long since I had the wheels off , When I took them off the other day to paint the calipers ..
I had to use a BFH to beat on the ratchet , to knock them loose .
When I used a cheater on the ratchet , it was making the internals jump.------------------------------------------------

i think wd-40 is crap. try getting pb blaster. use the little tube that comes with it and spray around the center hub opening (take off the chrome cap). take out the lug bolts and spray around the bolt holes in the wheel trying to get the penetrant to work its way between the back of the wheel and the front of the drum. get a block of wood against the outer edge of the rim and take a sledge to it. worse case-take off the spindle nut/washer and pull the wheel with the drum attatched and try beating on the drum with the same setup being careful not to get too carried away

?!?... pack you may want to try some grease the first time i took my lugs off i had a hard time, but i greased them up and grease them every time they seem to need it. their always still tight but not seized..
When helping Paul tear apart a verrry rusty old scrap festy we had some problems removing the rear wheels as well. beat on them w/ 4ft long solid bar for a while, then pried on them w/ the bar, and they finally came off... if your going to re-use the wheels you may want to try heating/cooling them some, if you dont' care about the wheels then beat the crap out of them they will come off!
also as another alternative, you could just remove the axle nut and take it off as a complete assembly. actually thats prolly the easiest way...~Nate

LUGS: breaker bar and a 2' snipe. Make sure the car is on the ground, and be prepared to A) stand on the end of the snipe, and B) maybe break a lug.
WHEELS: those urethane deadblow hammers work wonders. Usually most effective when pounding on the back side of the wheel.
Mine were a complete pig. Not only were the galled in place (alloy wheels + steel and iron hubs + years of neglect = STUCK!) but the guy I bought the car from sort of glued them in place by painting them while on the car.

The ones on my blue car were a real pain to get off that first time. I finally used a smallish pry bar that fit through the holes in the wheels and allowed me to pry against the brake drums. Took way too long... Once off, make sure you get the rust off the drum and the wheel & wipe some grease on.

Is it safe to try heating the wheel with a torch?
As an extra try melting a candle on the hot metal instead of WD40.
A navy guy once posted on the boatbuilding newsgroup they used that all the time on ships
and it never failed.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

I had to loosen the lug bolts just alittle and drive my yellow car half way round the block swerving hard side to side before two of the wheels finally broke loose. It had been wrecked in winter salt and parked in a barn with a dirt floor for 6 years though. Save your forarms and knuckles and let the laws of physics do the hard work.'89L 110k mi. BP/G swapped
