  • A/C Question.

i believe our A/C systems are of the Orifice tube type as opposed to the Thermal Expansion Valve, correct? if so then where is the orifice tube located? is it there where the lines go through the firewall or near the evaporator, or somewhere completely different?

touch the high side line after the condensor with the a/c running, where it gets cold is where the orifice tube is (usually at a connection) usually right before the evap.

The factory A/C that I just installed had a TXV inside of the evaporator housing with a drier next to the condenser. txv system needs a drier. orifice tube needs an accumulator. You can see it by pulling the fresh air selector housing down and looking into the evaporator housing. It looks like a brass mushroom with a line coming in the bottom and out the side with a themal-couple tube coming out the top that goes through the coil and is taped to the line on the other side. Why are you trying to locate the orifice tube or expansion valve?

I thought that the r-12 systems used the orifice tube and accumulator and that the r-134A systems used the TXV and receiver/drier. my accumulator is next to the firewall, not near the condensor.

either system can use either style, it doesn't matter. all that matters is that there's a place for moisture to go and there's a pressure drop somewhere before the evaporator.

ohh okay..well on the TXV systems, the receiver/drier is on the low side right? and the orifice tube systems the accumulator is on the high side?
