  • Maggie says "GRRR get on your bikes and RIDE!"

After halfway taking apart the old carbs on the V30 Magna I decided they were too far gone to rebuild without pouring in waaay more time and money than I have to spare right now. So I hopped on ebay to see what I could find in the way of a decent set to rebuild for her. I found a set that looked really clean (the bike had been laid down but still ran) and the float bowls had been drained and the carbs run dry before storage. So I put in a max bid of $100 and got them for $81. They arrived and I started the rebuild by removing the float bowls... they looked so clean inside and out that I put them back on and stuck the carbs on the bike. Three attempts to crank later this is what I got from her

Now its time to finish up the rest of the little things and put all the trim back on and RIDE!!!

I am skipping school tomorrow to go to Cumming to get another permit for mine lol.

If I ever feel like the Saki will make it to the mountains and back without problems I'll give you a call and meet you up there some time.

      Just finished it btw..............

It is a 1980 Kawasaki KZ 550LTD I got for free a couple years ago. The previous owner dropped it back in 86 and couldn't get it started so he just let it sit for 20 years.

I rebuilt the whole ignition system and completely redid the carbs and intake.

I threw some sport bars on it and ditched the sissy bar in order to give it more of a classic gp look. I also put some street tires on it.

I still want to lose the rear fender all together and flush mount the rear turn signals and brakelight/plate.

It is a work in progress but is ready to be ridden now.

Sorry for the big pics lol.

Kev, sounds a lot like the story of my bike... it wasn't dropped but it just died on the P.O. and it wound up sitting outside for the past 8 years. I rewired most of it and found out that it wouldn't start because of a melted plug on the main harness (which I replaced with one of the AC plugs from the parts festy (perfect fit btw) and then had to rebuild both MCs and of course put on the carbs. Now I just gotta get a battery and some tires and I should be done with it. The tires hold air and I'm sure they're good enough for test drive purposes around the neighborhood but after 8 years of sitting I definitely don't trust them on the highway... sad too because they have less than 500 miles on them

Rode her today Just down to the cul-de-sac and back... But wow! Now I know what it feels like to ride on a real motorcycle. Nothing against my old Rebel, it was definitely the perfect bike to learn on, and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to learn to ride (or anyone who is at least 6" shorter and 60lbs lighter than me :-P), but this thing has some juice to it Its really great... and I never even got past 3rd gear

yeah, I may be laying outta work early tomorrow to go get mine... though the bike won't be ready for a little while longer, all systems seem go except for the radiator (or hopefully just the hose) is leaking a good bit... so hopefully I'll be riding soon, I'll let you know kev

I just realized you can't ride on highways/expressways with permits lol.

Darn. I am getting my license soon enough anyway.

from alpharetta just take 9 up to 369 and then cut over to 400... you can go on anything except "controlled access" roads (the ones with exits) so once you get to the "stoplight" part of 400 you're good to go
