Well the mazdang will not be running for a while. Sunday morning i started the car up and it instantly started knocking like crazy. The car ran fine the night before and didn't make any noise. So i pulled it in the garage and pulled the valve covers off because it seemed like it could be coming form the valve train. Started it with the valve covers off and it looked normal but still knocked. The my brother says that the oil didn't look or smell right and grabbed a torch and lite the oil which held a flame, which meant it had gas in it. I checked the oil and it was a qt over full which was odd. So i decided to drain out a qt and go from there. After draining a qt of oil i checked it and the level was still the same if not higher. So then i checked the coolant and it was really low. At this point i pretty much new the motor was toast. The motor could have a cracked block because when i got it from a buddy of mine it had sat outside under a tarp and had about a gallon of water in the crank case, it could also be a head gasket. When i pulled it out of the garage there was a puddle of coolant oil and gas that had come out of the exhaust :shock: . I am really not out anything because i got the motor for free but it really sucks being so close and having to start over. I am putting the rex on the back burner and i want to get the valve train noise in my truck figured out.
it's the fuel pump. The diaphram ruptured, and its pumping fuel into the crankcase thru the pump body. As for the fluids in the exhaust, I vote for blown head gasket, as I've seen many times before.

That particular carb there is bad for needle and seat problems , filling the block thru the top .
It almost cost me a motor , would not turn over one day , it was completely full of gas .
I called Holley , they told me that , it was one of the worst carbs they made .

I don't think that's the notorious bad carb your talking about....his carb has the side mounted electro-thermo choke...the bad carbs had that vacuum/pintle deal on the front side....the bad carb was in the late 70's and in the early 80's they switched back to the early 70's version before the re-carbed it in the mid 80's.

No, it was a brand new Holley i bought in the early to mid 90's , it was a 600cfm , I would need to look the # up . But I had the same problem with it over and over , I had 2 kits put in it , and then one day , engine would not turn over ?? FULL to the bottom of the carb :twisted:
I called Holley , they told me that that was the worst carb they ever made , if I wanted it perfect , send it to Barry Grant and spend $500.00 on it .
I bought a new Edelbrock 750 , it's been on there for 13 years , and never been 1 problem

I think we might have something mixed up. He said the crankcase was filling with fuel. A bad needle valve will fill the cylinders, not the crankcase. A bad fuel pump will fill the crankcase, not the cylinders.

I had 3 gallons I drained out , when I drained the pan :lol: :lol:
Then I pulled the plugs ..Glug ..glug ..glug :lol:
