A few questions: What type, and how much paint/primer/clearcoat did you use? Did someone tell you what types to buy or did you get one of those chemically matched paint kits? I will be painting next month.. OMFG!! Techno's getting painted...

I used Dupont Nason base/clear, this was the 1st time I ever painted so nothing to compare it to. My friend who paints was there to watch me and tried the paint and liked it. He always used PPG and said next time he'll used the dupont. The reason I chose dupont was price. Once you pick a color it will not necessarily come in all brands. My color was available in all the expensive paint lines and only a few lower end paints. Base, clear, reducer, hardener came to $330. Total I have about $600 in materials.

Check dupont, PPG, Sherwin Williams Automotive, Martin Senoir (napa).

As far as how much paint it depends on how much of the car your painting. I bought a gallon of color and when reduced it gave me 1.5 gallons. This was enough to do the outside of the car, back of the hood, back of the fenders, door jambs, engine bay, wheel wells, inside the trunk to the back seat. I put 2 coats on everything. The clear after the hardener was added gave me 1 1/3 gallons. I sprayed 3 coats on the exterior where I planned to wet sand/buff and 2 coats in the engine bay, jambs, trunk. I would have liked to have had a little more clear. I also ended up buying another quart of base and clear to paint a few items like the bumper cover clips, hood hinges and valve cover.

As far as primer check out the write up I did a while ago: http://www.fordfestiva.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=299
I used dupont epoxy primer then dupont sandable primer and right before color I used PPG DP90 epoxy primer as my sealer coat.

        What color?

yeah, I've painted a few cars before.. but it's been awhile (10+yrs) and paints have changed a bit.. nice write up btw.. made it a sticky. I was thinking a gallon with jambs and engine bay.. but you even did the wheel wells and I am painting those with black undercoating. Havent decided on the paint color yet ..

Started wet sanding and buffing today. Got all but the hood and fenders done. This is by far the most physically demanding thing I've done on this project, I could barely hold the buffer anymore. My forearms are killing me. Spent about 6 hours sanding and buffing. Probably 4 more hours tomorrow and I'll be done.

Here is a pic, all the orange peel is gone:

I can sympathize, Matt. Took me 14 hours to do my Mustang. 3 coats of base color, 6 coats of finish color, 4 coats of clear. House of Kolor Orion Silver.....

Before I return the buffer and since I have enough compound I'll tackle the 68 mustang this week. It has 10 year old white enamel paint that looks dirty and dull. I'll rest my arms a day or 2.

I'm using the 3M polishing compound and then the machine glaze with the foam pad.

                      Looking good

As always your ride is looking good! Getting under the hood is a pain in the butt, wish mine looked that good. Its hard sanding in there and getting any oil off the bottom of the hood. I give you props!! Looks great. Keep us informed.
