I work on aircraft and aircraft engines and I have never sen anything that big. I knew radial engines are a lot heavier than regular reciprocating, but I have been fortunate enough to not have to deal with any. LOL

Sam, one more minor detail.
When was that engine last manufactured?
The Smithsonian isn't likely to let you have one of their's!

As a matter of fact, it is indeed the Super Wasp that was on the Connie and also the B-29 Superfortress I believe. I saw the Smithsonian's exhibit and wanted to take it home. They didn't see it that way.

I saw a vid of a tractor that a guy had put a radial engine into/onto. Wasn't the R-4360 (maybe the R-2800), but it still was pretty sick! Get this... someone has put a small 5 cylinder radial in a motorcycle chopper frame.
PU241, I believe P&W last made the R-4360 in the early '50's. The final iteration of the engine had turbo-supercharging and water injection. At full take-off power setting it produced somewhere in the range of 4,250 BHP at the propeller shaft. Someone recently stuffed a R-4360 into the nose of a WWII Corsair fighter for the Reno Air Race unlimited class. This beast has a 14 ft dia, 4 blade prop that's been chromed-out!

So I would guess the original was first used on the B-29 then the B-50 got the turbo super charging. Or was this the engine used in the P-38?

the c-47 used this engine and also the b-36 bomber which had 6 of these engines. later versions of the b-36, had 6 of these engines rated at 3,800 hp and had 4 general electric j-47 jet engines.the b-36 was used from the late 40's to the mid 50's untill it was replaced by the b-52.
got back from florida two weeks ago. went to elgin air force base to the museum, they had a 4360 on display that was cut away and you could press a button and see the internal workings move, it is a very complicated engine.
