Reptile of the lizard variety that feeds on grubs, insects, and apparently arachnids.
Think these are the kind that if caught by a predator it will lose its tale to fool the predator into thinking it still has the prey!

Cool lizards. I've kept several as pets. Here we have bright orange skinks up to about 6" long. And black ones with 5 turquoise stripes about the same size.

          Pu241:

I havent got to check on spidey today. But Im sure its fine.

          FB71 :

Here is a pic of the skink I have. There are really cool and Pu241 is right about the tail. If you grab their tail if will break off and wiggle for a while. Then they will grow a new one. Probably some research needs to be done on how they do that. Cool little critter that helps keep the insect population in check. They are quick too !! Sometimes you just see them with all four feet on their back sunning. Ive got hundreds of them. They change colors as they age. I've seen them from 3/4 of an inch to maybe five inches long.

              freshstiva,
For the size of your spider you need to start breeding bigger ones!
Because I'm afraid the skink doesn't always win in your neck of the woods!

except salamanders are amphibians (smooth wet skin) and skinks are reptiles (dry scaly). I've also heard people call salamanders spring lizards. Newt, mudpuppies and salamanders are all amphibians though.

Spidey found his opportunity and got free. Its probably roaming around in the shop somewhere. Hopefully it will repay me for its freedom by never showing itself again.

Assasin bugs are insects, not arachnids. You can see they have six legs instead of eight.

They are similar in that they both have exoskeletons and multiple legs and antennae, etc.

Here is a good site for info and pics on assassin and ambush bugs:

As for the reptiles and amphibians, same-same. Just cause they're shaped similarly don't mean they's alike!
