According to Wiki, original Minis weighed from 1360 to 1512 pounds!

    Not bad.

Wiki also lists it as having a "four speed automatic." Hmm. Not a three speed, or was the auto a very late development and it was a four speed auto?

Also, anyone know the bolt pattern size? I think it was something funky Englishy like on a Sprite or MG.

My friend is restoring one and whenever I go over to help him work on it I think, " man my car is friggin huge!" The next car i restore will be a mini, a sprite, or a bug. tiny cars FTW

If what I was told is true, when they imported Minis to the West Coast in the late 60s/early 70s, they were all automatics. Apparently the autos were junk and went out when the cars were still practically new - 25,000 miles or something like that. Some people took them apart and converted the transmissions to stick shift.

This came from an older guy I met who owned 2 of the cars and seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about them.

However the car in the picture was a manual, and from the look of it, always has been.

My buddies was an auto its a '74. It was also left hand drive. Hes converting it to rhd/manual trans which is most reliable and easy to find parts

The auto mayfair that my father in law used to own felt more like a 3 speed auto.
I've never heard anything bad about their reliability, though.

& yes, our cars feel freakin huge when next to a mini...

I would love to paint my Festiva that color.
