  • Gettin' close to done on the old '92

Don't have much left. I took the tired old '92 L car and went through the whole thing and added every option available except for the A/C and the digital dash clock. Painted it custom clearcoat, welded in a hood scoop from a Subaru Outback, refinished 2-tone and installed some 13" alloys from a 1977 200SX (the ford center caps fit the hub holes perfectly) , smoothed the front and rear bumpers (no more groove running across it), pulled the front signal lamps out flush with the bumper face, installed a full coverage LX interior in it plus the Escort dome lamp with map lights, tilt column, tach cluster, dual electric mirrors, 20% tint, rear wiper/ defroster hatch with OEM spoiler, rear cargo cover and new Sony CD. Still plan on installing a pair of early (smoothie) taillamps to accent the custom body work.
I've parted out 2 cars and have another whole car so I plan on driving this one 'til there's no way to patch it up anymore.
I'm in the N.E. Oklahoma area if anyone's out there that wants to hook up.
    David.

Awesome job! Love how the two tone goes into the tinted glass. Who designed the treatment?

Spent almost 2 solid months on it...

I've had the car for some time but didn't do anything with it until a couple months ago. I bought another car that had a good low mileage motor, swapped it over after doing the things that are easier to do with the motor loose. New belt, gaskets and such. New clutch, brakes (including the normal inoperative parking brake) and a few other things.
The last owner had lost the use of the climate control so he ripped it out of the dash and direct wired a toggle switch for the fan control. I pulled that junk out and put her back to factory specs. There were several things the last owner "fixed" that I had to refix.
Once the mechanical part was pretty much done I started on the body. You all know how tinny these babys are. There wasn't a straight spot on it anywhere, or so it seemed. The hood scoop was a fortunate turn in that I found an Outback hood that was nosed in the front so I was able to pick it up for $25.00. I cut out the scoop with about an inch clearance around it and spliced it into my factory hood. The plastic scoop itself bolts into the new "hole" I welded into the hood. I had to do away with the windshield squirter but I'm able to use a squirter tube from an older Ford vehicle that sits in the air intake in the cowl. Works as well and doesn't really show.
I'd had the LX hatch with the spoiler for a while and I knew I wanted to run the graphics up through the glass and incorporate the spoiler to tie it all together. I had other plans but that'll have to wait until the next project. I'm thinking of "pickupping" my parts car.
The paint work took me 2 days from start to finish with the laying of the graphics taking about 14 hours the first day. I finished up a few details early the next morning and cleared it all. The car was originally the blue metallic but I painted all jambs except the bulk of the engine compartment.
The lastest detail was the grille emblem. I had to pull the Ford logo for the paint work, it was scrubby anyway, so I put a KIA in it instead. Fit's great and really confuses those that don't know it was made by KIA. It'll rile some folks but I thought it appropriate.
I'll try to get some interior shots later.

              David.

I got the wheels from an LKQ pull-a-part yard from a 1977 200SX, 2 of them had the Datsun "D" center caps and the wheel lips had "Nissan" stamped in them but I don't know if they are correct for that car or had been swapped fom another.
