  • My new AMC ghetto wagon

I picked up my first AMC the other day for $595. It's a one-owner 1982 Concord DL 258 auto with more options than I though existed back then. Suprisingly all the power options still work. It has 227k, but it runs alright and it's pretty solid. The car could use some work and has a weird smell to it, but if I keep it for a while hopefully I'll track down a lower mileage motor and tranny, and perhaps a Jeep 4.0 HO head to swap on. Supposedly the head swap adds about 40 hp and 15-18% increase in fuel economy. Definitely worth it! Oh, and if I ever sell this car I'm keeping the wheels. Now if I can just fix my drivers door so I don't have to get in from the passenger side, I'm all set.

my grandpa used to have a few of those rotting around his farm, but he's gotten rid of all the scrap cars

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

We had a Hornet Sportabout when I was a "tween." Then I drove it a lot when I got my license in 1976. I think it lasted until around 1982 or so. The body was sagging a bit--or was it just the doors?

I liked the way they looked!

Once in a while I see an Eagle 4wd around here.

Around here it's easier to find birds with 3 legs than it is to find an AMC anything. The salt ate them years ago.

          LOL!

It's amazing how bad the salt is on the cars. I rarely see 8 year old cars that don't have rust.

Someone at my college drives one of these, identical to yours if I'm remembering it right, looks to be in almost perfect condition, at least on the outside. I really like them, especially all that wheel gap. Probably works well in our horribly potholed parking lots.

It's an AMC Eagle right? I love those cars! Wasn't there a two door model also? I used to think they were so cool! But then again, we were riding around in a turd brown Chevette. LOL

I'd still add one to my collection of cars! I liked the idea that it was a 4x4 wagon! Talk about being an nastalgic crossover vehicle!

Guy I used to work with, he retired, had one and it had every option and was in great shape. He still has it and lives pretty close to me.....I would drive one.

Mine's not an Eagle, it's a Concord. Same thing, minus the 4wd. AMC was so far ahead of it's time with the design of the Eagle.

It's the same way around here. that's why I jumped on this one when I found it for sale, even though I was looking for an economy car at the time. You just don't see AMC's this solid in Wisconsin.

They began with the Hornet and Gremlin designs around 1970, then became the Eagle and Spirit, then had 4WD versions offered.

I had a '74 Gremlin, with the 304 V-8. Fast little thing. But if you wanted to stop, 4-wheel drum brakes!! Sticking my head out the window and blowing would have stopped the car better.

AMC was FAR ahead of the times with the Eagle 4x4. In modern SUV's, most of the traction is sent to the rear wheels until the fronts need it. AMC invented that type of system.

Marty McFly's GF's father owned an Eagle wagon. (for all you Back to the Future fans!)
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.
