That 500, was that your total for the year? That's pretty darn great. My wife is much better at it than me for sure, but I want to say a big take for her in years gone by is like maybe just half that. It's much thinner these day though.
500 was for the year, yes. Found 1 side hill loaded with morel as far as the eye could see, picked easy 300. Was picking for an hour from same spot. Almost all 6-10 inches tall. Blew me away. Found a hill with 200 1-2 days before that, 3-6 inches tall. About 50 were the black variety. That was in 2008, was a good year. Lots of peeps reporting finds like that.

(Common also known as whites, grays, and yellows) The false morel is red or reddish, is not hollow on the inside.
It has been a slow year for the morel here in missouri. Got quite dry right at time they start growth. With the rain we are to get this weekend it may help.
We'll see. My honeyhole areas have only produced a few shrooms this year so far.
2 years ago I found like 500. Dried them and I still have some of them. Basically, I have been searching for the 'Blacks", but have found none. They dont grow in the abundance the common do.

I dried these out well over ten years ago. They last forever. Looks like I need to dust them off. 8^)

The false are a little more misshapen, pretty easy to spot actually.

I agree with Damkid.... There's one thought I can never get past with mushrooms:

Somewhere, a very long time ago, this happened:
"Hey, there's something growing out of that pile of crap...I wonder what it tastes like?"
