  • Just in time for Halloween! Some B3 carnage!

Ok, this came out of my old roommates RUNNING '94 Aspire 4door. Its amazing the abuse these little B3s can take and still be ticking. Its been about a year (and over 20,000 miles) since I was last under the hood of this thing (for an oil change). At that time we knew it was leaking a little oil out of the front main seal and burning a little (just enough to coat the tailpipe with soot). He was waiting till his next check to take it to a shop, and it was only losing about a quart every 1000 miles, so not too horrible. Anyway, long story short, he killed this thing. Took it to a shop (who told him that he had "bolt missing" from his exhaust which was why the car was running so loud, and also the "probable cause" for the soot at the tailpipe (I knew the pipe had a hairline crack in it, but wow!). I don't know what if any work they did to the car besides that, but here's what it looked like this week when I pulled the motor... Let me know what you think, lol

(Disclaimer: NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!)
(Note: A new motor is currently in place, the car will be running soon pending the hookup of radiator and other peripherals)

I guess thats where the "bolt" fell out of the exhuast?
    No festiva for me ATM...

Jeez when i seen the title saying B3 carnage i thought i was going to see bent connecting rods, smashed pistons or at least some majorly damaged engine parts of some kind

        1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
        1988 323 GT - B6T Powered

that B3 looks CLEAN!! you should have seen that one that is in Cherry (as I think I'm going to call it) before the re-build... the guy at the machine shop who hot tanked the block and said he hadn't seen such a dirty block :p it was using/leaking a quart of oil every day back and forth to work for the guy! (about 90miles round trip).

I'll have to take pics of Slick's engine when I get it pulled. Other than the gaping hole in the exhaust, I doubt it looks much better than that one.

The exhaust was what really got me (and its hard to see in the pics, but on the left side of where the runners come together there is another 1/4" hole) ... and I just realized that the duplicate picture of the alt took the place of the picture of the back of the car. I hadn't seen the car since June before he brought it over to have me swap the motors, and while it was never "clean" in the whole time he's had it, it used to be just a little of dirt on it...

                    But now:
