New Shop Pics

Ok, so the following threads will be the progression of the shop I have been building for almost 3 years. With the exeption of a few things (digging, lifting the walls, and sheetmetal, I have done everything myself.
The following posts will have pics, 2 at a time.


so back in March 2008 this hole was dug by a good friend... still paid him to do it, just not what normal people would charge.

Footing with exterior drains

So I formed up the footings, poured them (bought a trailer concrete pump) and then exterior footings summer and fall of 2008

Wall framing and concrete pours

So then summer 2009 was the summer of 3 concrete pours:
2 separate pours for the walls- split it up to use the forms twice
1 pour for the basement floor

Basement Pour

So this is the basement pour. There will be a 8 foot wide opening below for cars hmmmm wonder how many festiva's will fit?

Suspended slab framing

So then for the garage floor to be a suspended slab, I formed it up end of 2009. Formed it just like a regular house, with 2x's on 16" centers and 3/4 plywood.

Garage floor rebar and SUPPORTS

With over 16 yards of concrete for that 8" slab, that weighs 86,000 pounds. So, i did quite a bit underneath bracing...(and engineering math on loads)
those are 2x4's nailed perpendicular every 2' throughout the whole basement... i had some concrete blocks, used them up for temporary supports
Rebar is 5/8, on 1' centers

and the top is poured.... that was sure a stressful day.... i didn't want those supports to give way!!!

Summer 2010 - Framing

so then april of 2010 i started framing...

28 foot "flitch" beam i made... 2 x 1/4" steel pieces

So i bought some steel on CL, cut it up, welded it together and made this beam

Plywood on top and attic section started

plywood was done late september, upper story started.

3rd story complete w/ roof

so all the 3/4 plywood used for concrete wall footings (40 sheets of 3/4" plywood) was used for the roof sub-floor
also the stairs built to the attic area

Sheet metal on! its weather tite!

ok, so i bought all the sheetmetal, and just had a 3 man crew put up the sheetmetal.. i was running out of time before the colder weather hit, and just bit the bullet..
on the back side, i will eventually be putting a lean to, so i had the sheetmetal come only done to where it is, then used scraps to shed water until next summer..

this is what it looks like now with the exeption of both 9'6" tall x 10" wide garage doors on, and painted the light stone.

Dimensions- 28 x 32, 8' ceiling in basement, 10' ceiling in top garage portion, and attic has 28 x 16 area 8' tall up there ( to be a gameroom later)
Thats it so far! more to come later....
oh, and in the basement... there is a 9x11 room (storm shelter) that sits right above the garage where the cars will be for added strength/ safety
