Hey safetyguy is removing the indoor panels easy to remove? If so what's tools to use? A flat screw driver?

Door panels are removed this way...

Remove window cranks with special tool or rag. (Pull one or two thicknesses of rag under/between handle and door panel and move it back and forth as you pull towards the center of the handle pivot. This removes the "c" clip that keeps the handle on. If you're careful, you can catch the clip before it flies onto the ground.

Then take out all screws: armrest (2), lower front corner, door pull bezel.

Then go around the door periphery, carefully pulling out the attachment plugs. This takes a bit of practice; you can use a flathead screwdriver to help. I found that pulling up on the door panel as you pulled out the bottom plugs worked to keep them in their cardboard slots.

I believe its between the tranny and the speedo cable. I have a complete cruise set up minus that part. It would be easy to ship and Ill make it worth your while. It should have at least one wire coming off of it. Ill find you some more detail if I can.

I have a door panel clip removal tool that makes removing door panels a breeze. It is basically a screw driver, but with a fork on the end. It's really easy to bend or tear the board when removing door panels, especially when they are 20+ years old. You can probably find them at Harbor Freight. It doesn't get used much, but when you do need it, its great to have.

I had something like this lying around. It works great for pulling door panels and carpet without breaking the plastic clips. Mine has a bit larger of a flat section.

Fresh, have you ever taken one off?

I did look down at the speedo end where it went into the MTX. It looked "different." I had to cut the speedo cable because I couldn't get it off of the dipstick or the dipstick out of the transaxle in order to push it into the firewall enough to disconnect from the tach cluster. Like I said, it looked strange. Not like my carbed '89 or any of my FI MTXs.

I'll take another look when I go back. It is a carbed '89 LX and not an FI, if that matters.

In the picture from page 22, which side is "up?" It looks turned on its side, anyway.

Villageidiot, thanks for the directions! Sounds easy. I may grab it, since I have no extras to play with.

Wybnrml, I've thought about getting those HF plastic tools, but haven't yet. Maybe someday.

Enemy, I'll keep my eye out for anyone needing one if I get this spare.

Thered, is that tool metal or plastic?

It'll probably rain tomorrow and I won't want to wade through all the mud. But we'll see!

It's metal. It's just a type of cat's claw nail puller. I used to do house construction. Someone bought one for me, and it wasn't all that handy until I tried it out on my Festi! heheh I'm not necessarily saying it's the best tool for the job, but it does work great. I just thought I'd mention it since some of you may already have something like it.

you gotta grab the cruise it only consist of two vacuum lines which pull right out, the cpu box tucked under driver foot well with power wire going to fuse panel, the servo , the brake cancel switch and the speed sensor which is just put the speedo cable coming from firewall in between 2 fingers and slide down about 10 inches and you will see it with a little wire coming out !

I went and grabbed the two front seats today. I'm going back to work on one recalcitrant bolt holding in the center belt latches. Taking a loooonnng breaker bar. It's soaking in PBB now.

Bad news about the speed sensor: the 'yard won't let me take it without buying the whole transaxle! I brought it up before leaving a few minutes ago and they might think it over, especially if the car will be crushed with the trans still in it. (Transaxle is $200 with core. I don't have a suitable core and I can't be testing transaxles now, so that's out.)

I got the heater bezel. It didn't even have any screws holding it in. No charge! I guess they take pity on me carrying those seats and stuff all the way from the back of the property!

I'm going back after a few minutes break. I think this is the last trip I'll take--for a few days anyhow. Quite a workout!

As for Aqua, the LX tach cluster has a working temp gauge. I was right about my original replacement being bad. Now I have temp! And my fan thermoswitch kicks it on when necessary! I'm happy. Now I just need to fix my hatch latch so I don't have to climb in and reach back TWICE to unlock it.

The sensor is not part of the transaxle and will not diminish the transaxle in any way.

I asked him again about it when I left. He said they "didn't sell speed sensors off transaxles."
I also asked about notifying me before they crush the shell, but he doesn't know that until he gets a list of cars that the 'yard people give him AFTER they get crushed.

Here's a link to their site if you want to call and talk to them to see if "money talks" or whatever. If they pull the part I'll pick it up for you.
